Since the advent of Smart Phone, Face Book and Instagram Travel and Photography of places you visit has become a very challenging task. There is a very significant increase in number of people visiting spots made popular by posts on the face book with happy faces smiling in the background of the famous monuments or landscapes. It appears that the message being conveyed is “I was happy here” and that causes others wanting to experience that happiness.

So a serious photographer needs to get out early in the morning as the day breaks to avoid the crowds and also to get the best light. When travelling with a group of friends it also means some times to break from. I also found that as a tourist you do not get to the best spots for taking pictures of the place. No doubt on the web one can find suggestions on where to take pictures from. But I found that using the services of a guide who is interested in photography or a professional photographer who knows the best spots to go to is a great advantage. Of course these are significant additions to your travel budget but well worth it.

In recent years I used Professional Photographers to take us to places in Iceland, Japan- Kyoto, Swedish Lapland for Aurora Borealis, Rome, Tuscany, New Zealand , New Mexico, Holland, Base Camp of Everest and Kanchenzhanga.

The use of specialized guides was of great help in Tokyo, Mount Fuji, Provance, Uzbekistan, Wild Life Sanctuaries In India, Botswana and Tanzania.
As one ages it becomes more important to reduce the weight of camera gear and you should seriously look at a Mirrorless Nikon or Sony as the camera of preference.
The I Phone X can surprisingly capture great pictures. My wife has done that on several occasions.

The greatest joy of photography is the revival of memories when you see a photo after some time.The entire context of that photo shoot and who you were with comes back as a vivid memory.

It is indeed a great joy to capture the beauty of the moment at a place and cherish it for life. Also it is a continuous learning experience of improving what you capture.

Planning the trip, deciding what you must see and determining what you wish to photograph and then arranging your travel around it is must. The internet is a great asset to use in doing this. I found all my guides and professional photographers through the internet and every one was outstanding in what they brought to table. They have helped me improve my photographs with practical inputs.

And above all you must have great company to enjoy the travel. Myself and my wife have done trips by ourselves but the ones done with friends are by far the most enjoyable ones.

So find a companion, a few friends, choose a destination, get up early and be fit to walk, climb and come up and down hills to get the most of your travel and photography.
